As I couldn't swallow very well I relied on thin soups, strained porridge and energy drinks, as my main meals. I got into a routine and stuck to it. The doctor prescribed the energy drinks and there are a few to choose from, with different flavours. I started on the thick drinks but had to move to the juice ones as couldn't manage the thicker ones. Swallowing was really hard at this point and there was the possibility that I would have to go into hospital to get fluid into me, but I came through this and managed, just.
My wife Sara did homemade soups, strained them twice and froze into cubes, these were life savers as I could have just a few each time and get some good stuff into me.
I also had frozen pineapple juice in cubes which I could suck to help with a sore mouth.
